My wife and I and two kids (5yo & 7yo) are considering going to Beijing for 4-5 days over Christmas to do the main sites (Great Wall, Forbidden City etc.) Can anyone advise if 4 days will be enough, whether it is busy then in Beijing and where would be a good hotel for our family?
Also heard there is a good spot for tobogganning etc. with the kids a short drive from Beijing? Where is it and is it worth visiting?
as to tobogganning, according to http://www.beijingski.com there are about 10 ski resorts near beijing (unfortunally this website has only Chinese language version). among them there is a famous one named Beijing Nanshan Ski Resort (Nanshan Huaxuechang). please see their pictures at http://www.hereisbeijing.com/viewtopic.php?t=261
Address:Miyun County, Beijing
Admission:CNY108 (US$15)

i think 5-7 days is good for your family's trip, just to visit some "must-to-see" scenic spots, for example Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo (to see Panda) etc.. please check out http://www.hereisbeijing.com for more information.
WARNING be prepared to be stuck in traffic jams for hours on end! My four day trip recently included 12 hours in taxis! It was a nightmare could only do one vist in the morning and one in the afternoon.Didn't get to most places it was all too hard ended up eating at the hotel. And don't go to Quan Jude Peking Duck restaurant it was VERY average! Poor service and crap atmosphere even if it is famous! And no chinese tea after 9pm! Go figure.
Last year when I went to Shenzen with my American friend she was turned away at border and told she could only get one in HK!!
