My family ( with children aged 12 and 9) are coming to HK for three weeks and have asked if I can arrange a 10 day trip for all of us to Australia at Easter. They like their creature comforts and don't want to backpack it. They also don't want to do too much travel - but have asked to see Noosa. Can anyone recommend an itinery that would suit, together with some great accommodation?
If you haven't been to Oz before then I would recommend you fly to Sydney and spend a few days there before flying up to Noosa. You can't go to Oz without seeing Sydney!!
Okay, late March it will still be quite warm, but not the stifling temperatures you'll get in Dec/Jan/Feb. Noosa is a very popular place - mix of money and overtanned beachsiders. If you're in that area and choose to concentrate on Qld then you can do enough in the area. Surfers Paradise is nearby but unless you're a teenager I'd stay away from Broadbeach for accommodation and head to Main Beach. Quieter and all the other beaches no distance to travel. Recommend you check out the Contessa Apartments (I think its something like www.contessaapartments.com.au but I'm not sure - easy to find anyway online). May be a bit more expensive but such a great location. From there you can travel to all the amusement parks (Dreamworld, Movieworld) and if you don't mind the 1.5 hrs travel (by memory) you can visit Steve Irwin's zoo (Australia zoo). Also hire jet skis nearby (great for the kids), nice restaurants. Hiring car very inexpensive. I agree, Sydney is great, but you may need to concentrate your 10 days to one area, although you could feasibly fit in a couple of days there before heading up to Qld. Australians are used to travelling long distances by car, train or plane. You may not be. Have a good trip.
Thanks Walter -so much choice - so little time. My husband would really like to focus on Sydney. Id there anywhere near Sydney you could go for some chill out time?
Chill outs near Sydney... Coogee Beach is still in the city limits but out of the hustle and bustle of the cbd or further afield you have the Blue Mountains (Lillianfells is lovely!) and also the Hunter Valley wineries, both an easy couple of hours drive from SYD. You can then fly to Sunshine Coast Airport to include Noosa (Hastings Street is the main street so anything on this street will more pricey but well located to all the great seafood restos, bars, boutique shops and the main beach in Noosa).
cental coast around avoca beach is ok at that time of year.its about 1.5 HOURS from Sydney North. Beaches are clean and safe and the kids will have a ball. there is a reptile park on the way in there where the kids can pat kangaroos etc.. have a look on ozstays.com (I think thats the name).
