Sorry for the trouble.
CD drive read fine but doesn't burn.
Tried with few softwares but all the time after analysing and all the rest it says that burning failed.
Tried different speeds as well with no success.
PC shop says I need to bring the pc to them and they keep it for few days. I need my pc with me lol.
Could it be a configuration issue?
How can I tell if it's fixable? or maybe just to buy an external drive and finish with it?
Thanks for any help.
errrrr will try, but I dont think it's that, I use the "Kodak 52x cd-r" if those number matter.
It used to burn but recently - nothing. I use it only for family pictures, so it's not used frequently.
As far as i know, I have a good anti-virus and firewall and since I dont share or download any softwares or movies or songs I doubt it's a virus, but I'll do "house call" anyway.
If somehow something got deleted, is there any way I can see that? when I look at it on 'my computer' it calls it "dvd-rw drive e" if that makes any sense.
"I use the "Kodak 52x cd-r" if those number matter"
Good brand. Probably not that the.
As for drivers, they tend to be generic nowadays. But drivers can go wonky so you should try reinstalling them. I'll assume you have XP or Vista.
- Right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage".
- Go to "Device Manager" and find the CD drive.
- Right click on the drive and select "Uninstall". You might get a warning.
- Reboot. Your drive will be automatically detected and the drivers re-installed.
Black-Virusss, could you please try to be a bit more clear in your posts? I know you're trying to help and that is appreciated but you need to spell out what you mean a bit better. Cheers.
axptguy38, I followed your instructions up untill the clicking on 'Uninstall'(just to see the way). One question though before I click it :-p
I don't have any cd's or floppies for the hardwares nor do I have Windows cd. I got this pc as is. Will i need any software to re-install? or will the computer just recognise it and do it by itself?
When you say "reboot" you mean "restart"?
Thanks
P.s. no bugs found :-)
The drivers for your cd drive are in the driver library (since it worked before). After a reboot (which for non-geeks is the same as a restart) Windows should find the driver automagically and reinstall it. No need for any other media.
I can't guarantee that it will work. I perform this procedure from time to time without issues. However I do have all the install media and such lying around so I have a safety net.
Then again, your cd drive is pretty much useless to you now right?
This is one of those "trust me" moments I guess. But if you do a quick Google search you'll find many geeks offering the same solution:

axptguy38, thanks I tried and rebooted( I thought if I'll reboot insted restarting, the pc will think I am a geek and will fix it :-p ), but it didn't work :-s
I tried burning using several methods with no success. Also tried burning a simple word document and it didn't work.
It proccess the whole thing and at the end just says 'burning failed'. Could it be that the burner just got screwed up?
Thank you, honestly. :-)
These things are normally software issues. Then again, if the driver reinstall didn't fix it, I would go out and buy a new drive. They aren't very expensive. On the order of 300-400 honkies for DVD/CD burner I would think.
Hope that works out. At least you know how to install the drivers for the new drive. ;) I would recommend uninstalling the old one in Windows (as per what you tried), then shutting down (instead of rebooting). Then you swap them out physically and finally boot the machine.
That will definately going to be fun opening the box and seeing all those chips inside and messing with it. hehehehe
Can't wait to buy the new one.
Thanks for the help. :-)
