I'll try to explain what I'm looking for. It's a thick sauce, dark and sort of sweet, that can be used for cooking. I first tried it in Malaysia and when I was living in Singapore I could buy it almost everywhere. In Singapore, it was called ABC sauce.
I can't find it at all in HK. Can anyone figure out what I'm referring to? If yes, is it available in HK and where? Thanks a lot!
Have you tried one of the Indonesian shops dotted about the place? Otherwise you could try Pat Chun which sells its own Kecip Manis with 'gula malaka' in it.
ABC is the brand name. Kecap Manis is the name of the sauce. It is one of my favorite cooking ingredients. I love it with my scamble eggs and for my DH I use it for his beef and onion dish.
There are some Indonesian stores behind Windsor House on Sugar Street and all around the Indonesia Embassy - all in CWB. Some of the Indonesian restuarants also carry them - and display them in the front pastry counter. There is a Indonesian restuarant one floor down from Outback - on Patterson Street in CWB.
