we are moving shortly to Singapore and I have just found out I am pregnant so I need to locate a ob/gyn quickly and would also like recommendations of hospitals for delivery. Ideally I would prefer a "western" woman doctor but any recommendation gratefully received.
thanks
I am so sorry that I didn't manage to reply to the PM you sent me ages ago.....was a hectic period for me juggling my toddler and fairly newborn then.
In Singapore, there is a very popular Western female doc by the name of Ann Hargerty. But she wasn't my doc so can't make a personal recommendation.
As for hospitals, popular ones with expats are:
Mt. Elizabeth
Gleneagles
Thomson Medical Centre
Cost varies, the Ministry of Health has link on their site on average hospital bills for delivery so do check that out. Bear in mind that most docs only choose to work with select hospitals so you want to check that as well. For example, my doc only delivers at Mt. Elizabeth.
From my personal and friends' experiences, the expertise and professionalism of docs in Singapore are good but each to their own, you need to find one who is supportive of your birth choices that might not be so common in Singapore as yet. For example, you will find that only some docs will be supportive of water births, doulas in the delivery room, etc.
thanks for your advise wheelymate. Contacted Ann and they said they can make an appt for me in Aug. which doesnt really work as due to my age I need to do things like screening earlier than that.. any other suggestions gratefully recieved.
