I have the oppourtuinity to go and live with my husband and 2 teenage children as an expat for 5 years. i was there 10 years ago, and found the settling in period with small children and culture shock (EUROPEAN ) very difficult to adjust to. am i thinking that the grass is greener, and will I arrive there and regret it. I know that expats have a privilliged life, but will having 2 teenagers be easier than 2 toddlers. i would love to hear from somebody in a similar situation. has the move been succesful. how have the kids adopted to the new way of life. my husband is very kean to go back because the work will be challenging, but i am not so sure
Guess the Fuentekid has labeled us who LOVE the Philippines and consider it to offer a dream lifestyle for small business people. Am I weird, maybe? Broke,?no! Eccentric? yes probably ( if I had a bit more net worth ) Am I nuts? That's how some might describe me
My opinions are about a direct OPPOSITE of the "Fuentekid"'s opinions; I could go on and on about the serious LACK of a QUALITY lifestye available to the MAJORITY of Americans and citizens of the developed, industrialized countries of the "West".
The choice to move back has alot to do with your teenager's academic and athletic performance in school wherever you live now. If either one is at the TOP of his "game" where the rewards can be significant then do NOT move back to the Philippines. But if your kids are somewhere in the middle, performance wise, academically and athletically thenit might be a GREAT IDEA to move back and allow them to experience another choice in life and opportunities other than living and seeking careers at home. Also if your husband may enjoy some sort of improvement in his resume or have a bettewr chance to get promoted in his career by working in the Philippines that financial reward aspect should be something you consider also. A more enthusiastic Father abroad is better than a Father BORED with his career life at home and this factor will have its effect on your teenagers since this is the age when mentors can be important in a person's life.
i would be interested in any small business ideas in the philippines to make a living for a canadian who has been to manila, boracay, etc in the philippines, something to make little guaranteed money every month with small investment.
thanks
