Can anyone give me advise on what the normal expat annual vacation is? I know that the local is 14 days but believe that this not usual for an overseas contract? Appreciate information or advice.
There is no 'normal expat annual vacation' in Hong Kong. The Labour Law however requires all employer in HK to give their employees (whether local or expat) no less than 7 days annual leave if the employee works for them no less than 4 days and in a total of 18 hours per week. Of course, your employer can be more generous than this, this should then be detail in your employment contract.
On the assumption that you are already working in HK then your entitlement should be clearly set out in your employment contract. It would normally depend on HK labour laws and the company's own HR policies (including the benfit you enjoyed before you transferred to HK if you came here on an internal transfer). I know my husband's was 20 days per year but that's what it was before he transferred to HK with the company, and it was considerably more than others in the company - including a couple of non-locals who were hired fresh in HK.
