on the internet alot of places state you have to apply for a work visa b4 you arrive, why is this, and surely you can apply when you are there, how and where do you apply? can anyone help with this info please, thankyou
your employer has to apply for the visa for you from the immigration department. you can find a job once you are here. but after you get your visa you will need to exit HK and come back in again to activate your visa.
But still be prepared for some questions from Immigration when you re-enter from such a short departure. Not always the case - depends sometimes on the officer I think. One thing they frown on is a change to visa status when in HK - and if you arrive on a tourist visa and then change to a work visa they can look on it as the purpose of your initial visit was not tourism at all but looking for employment. Those advices you read on the internet are technically correct because you are supposed to have your work visa approved before entering HK.
i know many people that have got their visas after they arrived in hk and then went to shenzhen or macau and then came back to activate their visas and none of them had any problems. daypd2 i'm sure you will be fine.
